G. Melvyn Woodhead

Founder

I was a boarder at Silcoates School, Wakefield between 1948 and 1956. I carried out my 2 years national service between 1958-1960 serving in the Queens Own Hussars at Catterick, Tidworth then abroad in Libya.

Following this I worked with my father in the family haulage business before gaining employment working for Hepper & Sons in Leeds, then Evans of Leeds property group.

I founded both Woodheads Estate Agency and Woodhead Investment & Development Services Ltd, with my wife Susan, back in 1965. We sold the residential estate agency in 1982 to give greater attention to the property investment and trading company.

Today, I am responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the business as the Chairman and Director of Woodhead Investments, supported by sons, Mark and David.

Personal interests include shooting, swimming, socialising and eating out. I am a member of the British Association of Shooting and Conservation (BASC). I have been married since 1964 (to the same person!), have 2 sons, 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson.
